"Naturam á vacuo abhorrere" /
Vacuum Cleaner Connected To Space Construction
In this piece, I am using a vacuum cleaner to make an empty space. The vacuum cleaner is connected to a motion sensor that will turn it on when a person is near. My intension is not interactivity but to have periods where the vacuum cleaner is on and off. The vacuum cleaner is furthermore connected to a space constructed of six frames with transparent PVC tablecloth on. The PVC tablecloth is like skin that will tighten op when the vacuum cleaner turns on.
The first part of the title is a quotation of Aristotle which means: There can be no vacuum in nature.
It refers to the theory initially proposed by Aristotle stating that empty space can not exist. As a matter of fact, the perfect vacuum is an ideal and a philosophical concept that can never be observed in practice. It is simply physically impossible.
